Festival de Eurovision. European music festival.

Un año mas hemos vivido la farsa de Eurovision. No entiendo como seguimos participando de semejante pantomima. España tan solo tiene frontera con Francia y Portugal, lo que nos hace tener muy pocas alianzas vecinas. Tampoco hay muchos españoles repartidos por Europa aunque haya programas que nos hagan pensar lo contrario. Otra vez Uribarri acerto todas y cada una de las puntuaciones de los paises participantes. Me gustaria pensar que participar en este concurso nos reportara algun beneficio economico, pero no confio mucho en ello. En epocas de crisis es imperdonable que una cadena publica pueda gastar dinero y esfuerzos en semejante espectaculo. No obstante, peor seria participar en el concurso y ganarlo. Eso si que nos provocaria un autentico problema economico.

This year we have also experienced the farce of Eurovision. I do not understand how we participate in such a falsehood. Spain has only a border with France and Portugal, which makes us have very few alliances neighbors. There are not many Spanish located in Europe despite there are some TV programs that make us think otherwise. Mr. Uribarri was right again each and every one of the scores of the participating countries. I would like to think that participating in this contest bring us an economic benefit, but do not trust it too much. In times of crisis is inexcusable that a public broadcaster can spend money and effort into such a spectacle. However, it would be worse to participate in the contest and win. That would be a real economic problem.

El Estado como empresa. The State as a company

Hoy hemos tenido clase de marketing internacional con el profesor Julio Cerviño. La lección ha sido muy interesante y provechosa e impartida por un gran docente. Tras terminar la clase he estado debatiendo con mi mujer Montse Pla y hemos llegado a la conclusión que hay oportunidades de negocio en el extranjero muy interesantes, pero que por la elevada inversión hace muy difícil que empresas medianas puedan plantearse. Pues bien, ¿Que pasaría si el Estado actuara como empresa y abriera vias de negocio en otros países?. Si ejerciera de empresario (con profesionales que provengan de las empresas privadas mejor que funcionarios) podría obtener grandes beneficios para el país, teniendo en cuenta lo complicado de la economía española en estos momentos. Probablemente sería una buena opción que el estado pudiera emprender acciones de este tipo, aunque por desgracia la historia nos indica que el gobierno nunca ha sido un gran gestor. Evidentemente esta riqueza no generaría apenas puestos de trabajo en España, y posiblemente haya otras prioridades en que invertir los recursos (I+D+i), pero no me parecería ninguna locura plantearlo ya que de esta manera puedes abrir el camino a otras muchas empresas a establecer lazos con otros países extranjeros en los que el Gobierno ya haya abierto y facilitado la comunicación.

Today we had a conference of international marketing given by Julio Cerviño. The lesson was very interesting and helpful and taught by a great teacher. After completing the class, my wife Montse Pla and me have been discussing about it and we have concluded that there are business opportunities abroad very interesting, but the high investment makes it difficult for medium-sized enterprises. Well, what would happen if the State acts as an enterprise and makes business in other countries?. If the State acts as a manager (with professionals who come from private companies better than officials) could reap enormous benefits for the country, taking into account the complexity of the Spanish economy at this moment. It would probably be a good option that the State could undertake such actions, but unfortunately history tells us that the government has never been a great manager. Obviously this wealth doesn’t generate jobs in Spain, and possibly the State has other priorities to invest resources (research, development, innovation), but is not  crazy to think about it, in this way can open the way for many other companies to establish ties with foreign countries in which the Government has already opened and facilitated communication.

La Calidad del Servicio. Debería ser objeto de estudio. Quality of Service. Should be studied.

Hoy he estado en una oficina de Correos y, otra vez, el servicio ha sido lamentable. Creo que puede ser que el haber estado este último año estudiando atención al cliente y gestión de calidad me haya sensibilizado, pero es que creo que no puede ser que a primera hora de la mañana estén los trabajadores refunfuñando, la directora de la oficina maldiciendo y la chica del mostrador contestando a los clientes con un «que quiere que yo le diga», «soy una mandada», etc… Para colmo han tenido un problema informático y nos han hecho esperar casi media hora, sin decirnos en ningún momento si faltaba mucho para poder solucionarlo.
Creo que estaría bien que todos tomaramos algunas lecciones de estos temas para no tener que aguantar situaciones como las que he vivido hoy. La gente debería protestar más por este mal servicio. Seguro que los causantes y los empresarios tomarían cartas en el asunto para evitarlos.

Today I was in a post office and the service has been terrible, again. I think that maybe studying customer service and quality management have sensitized me, but I think we can not accept that early morning workers are grumbling, the director of the office cursing and the counter girl answering customers with a «What do you want to hear,» «I’m just doing what the boss orders»,  … Theyhave also had a computer problem and have made us wait almost half an hour, without telling us in no time if missing much to be overcome.
I think it would be nice to take some lessons that all of these issues will not have to endure situations like I experienced today. People should complain about receiving bad service. Surely the workers and employers would take matters into avoiding them.
